6:30pm: History of Avant Garde Theater
Columbia University professor Arnold Aronson provides historical context for the current experimental theater-making environment in NYC, with Judith Malina of the Living Theatre.
7:30pm: NEA 4 Revisited: Politics, Art & Culture War
A discussion with members of the original NEA 4, Karen Finley and Holly Hughes, and former director of the NEA theatre and musical theatre program Gigi Bolt. After twenty-two years where do we stand in the Culture Wars and what is the future of the National Endowment of the Arts? Moderated by artistic director Paul Bargetto.
9:00pm: Festival Opening PARTY
Celebrate abundance downtown-style with festival artists at the opening party with DJ and video art by Romanian video artist Cinty Ionescu. A special toast is planned for the supporters of the Kickstarter campaign! ($3 beers from Zywiec and Brooklyn Brewery)
