About the Reading Group

The Foucault Society is convening a year-long discussion group on Foucault’s 1975-76 lecture course, “Society Must Be Defended.” As a reference point for our discussion of violence, racism, conflict, the nature of “the political,” and the constitution of social reality, we will consider Foucault’s lectures in the context of Johanna Oksala’s newly published book, Foucault, Politics, and Violence (2012), and other critical perspectives.

Faculty, graduate students and independent scholars are invited to join us for an in-depth discussion.

We will meet every two weeks at the CUNY Graduate Center throughout the 2012-2013 academic year.

Please join us!

Open to the public.

We recommend that participants have some familiarity with Foucault’s work.

Suggested donation: $10/meeting.

Registration: foucaultsocietyorg@gmail.com
