Per Diem Museum Educators Needed at the Museum of the City of New York
Founded in 1923 as a private, non-profit corporation, the Museum of the City of New York connects the past, present, and future of New York City. It celebrates and interprets the city, educating the public about its distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. The Frederick A.O. Schwarz Children’s Center at the Museum serves over 43,000 children and adults each school year through fieldtrips, afterschool programs, family programs and professional development.
We are currently seeking per diem educators to provide interactive experiences for school children. These programs are delivered to a wide ranging audience, from kindergarten to high school.
There is some flexibility as to which days of the week candidates are available, but priority will be given to those who can work mornings from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and can be available more than two days a week.
Implement the School Programs by engaging students in discussion, inquiry, and hands-on activities
Set up before and clean up after your group’s visit
Restock/prepare materials for future visiting groups
Make sure the group leader fills out the evaluation before leaving
Attend curator and educator-led trainings throughout the year
Work with full-time staff to re-order supplies and materials, address concerns about programs, and evaluate certain program aspects (as needed)
MA or MS in education, history, art history, or museum studies
Only individuals with previous experience teaching in a museum setting should apply
Knowledge of New York City History
Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for working with school children
Creativity and imagination
Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly
Pay: $20/hr for direct work with children. Training rate will vary.
