Fall Workshops for Draper Students: MA Thesis Writing and PhD Applications

PhD Application Workshop

Friday, October 24
6-8pm
Draper Map Room

Led by professors Lori Cole and Justin Jackson

This workshop is a mini-orientation session geared towards students who are either considering a Ph.D. or those who are already in the early stages of the application process. It is also relevant to students who are interested in general information regarding doctoral degrees and those who need some guidance as to what they should be prepared for in terms of the application process. Some general issues that will be tackled are:
  • How do I know if a Ph.D. is right for me?
  • Setting realistic expectations of the Ph.D. process and future career trajectories.
  • Choosing a department as well as a university that is a good fit for me.
  • What to expect in terms of the contents and deadlines for a Ph.D. application.
  • Using Draper as a resource for making decisions about a Ph.D. and a career in academia.

We encourage all Draper students who are interested in future doctoral studies and have questions regarding the same to attend. This workshop will also be offered again in the spring.

MA Thesis Writing Workshop
Friday, November 21
7-9pm
Draper Map Room

Led by professors Emma Heaney and Patrick Vitale

Will you begin writing your thesis sometime in the next few semesters? Wondering where to start and how to get organized? Curious about honing a topic and finding an advisor? The thesis writing workshop will answer these and other pressing questions. Emma Heaney and Patrick Vitale will help you learn how to approach the project with less stress and more focus (even if you won’t be writing your thesis for a while). This workshop will also be offered again in the spring.
