Susan Carruthers is Professor of History at Rutgers University-Newark. She received her PhD from Leeds University in the UK and taught International Politics at the University of Wales, Aberysthwyth. Professor Carruther’s research centers primarily on conflict and communication. She is the author of four books, including Cold War Captives (University of California Press, 2009) and The Media at War (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2011). She will be discussing a chapter from her new book manuscript, The Good Occupation: Americans as Victors after World War II (Harvard University Press, forthcoming).
