GSAS Travel Grant Program

The Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) provides funds to graduate students in the humanities, social sciences and sciences for travel to professional meetings and conferences to present invited papers or posters. The Dean’s Student Travel Grant Program provides a total of 225 awards each year, in the amount of $500 each, to help students defray the cost of presenting their scholarly work. The grant may be used for travel, lodging, and related expenses.

Call for Papers: Oxford Women’s Leadership Symposium, December 8-9

The fourth Oxford Women’s Leadership Symposium will be held on 8 and 9 December 2014 at the Margaret Thatcher Centre, Somerville College, in the University of Oxford.

You are invited to present a paper on an aspect of women’s studies, or you may wish to attend as an observer or panel member. If you wish to present a paper you will be requested to submit a brief abstract for review by the Programme Committee. Papers presented will be subsequently peer reviewed by external readers for possible inclusion in Symposium books or as sponsored journal articles. The deadline for abstract submissions is September 1, 2014.

The Oxford Women’s Leadership Symposium is designed as a seminar for presentation of papers and ideas regarding gender equity and fairness in leadership opportunities in the social and economic structures of society.

Travel Grant Winner!

We are delighted to announce that Maria Arettines has won the Draper travel grant for the May 1 – June 30 drawing period. This $200 award will help defray the cost of traveling to the National Women’s Studies Association conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico where she will present her paper “Dismantling Borders, Reconstructing Peace: Feminist Reunification Politics in Cyprus”.

Travel Grant Results!

If you are unfamiliar with the Travel Grants, read on: 

The Draper Program, throughout the academic year, awards five $200 grants to Draper students who are selected to present papers at academic conferences. The awards are meant to defray the cost of travel, so that students are able to present outside of the New York City metro area. Winners are randomly selected from the applicants for each period. The periods are:
September 1 – October 31
November 1 – December 31
January 1 – February 28
March 1 – April 30
May 1 – June 30
Students who will be presenting at a conference within or after each drawing period are welcome to apply. (Example: if a conference falls on November 15, a student may apply to the drawings for both Sept 1 – Oct 31 and Nov 1 – Dec 31.)
